  • Lectors | Holy Spirit Catholic Church

< Back Lectors Proclaim the Word of God clearly and prayerfully during the celebration of the liturgy. Lectors proclaim the Living Word of God during the Sacred Liturgy. This ministry is a sacred responsibility that calls for preparation, reverence, and a love for Scripture. Through their proclamation, lectors help the assembly encounter Christ speaking through His Word. Volunteers are provided with a Lector Handbook and guidance to support prayerful preparation and confident proclamation. Scheduling is published in three-month cycles, allowing lectors to plan ahead or arrange substitutes when needed. Part-time residents are welcome and encouraged to share their availability so scheduling can be coordinated effectively. Serving as a lector is an opportunity to grow in faith, deepen one’s familiarity with Scripture, and help others hear God’s voice in the liturgy. • Holy Spirit Gifts Tree | Holy Spirit Catholic Church

< Back Holy Spirit Gifts Tree Share the joy of Christmas by providing gifts for local families and children in need. The Holy Spirit Gifts Tree is a parish outreach ministry that helps bring the joy of Christmas to families in need throughout our community. Each year during the holiday season, parishioners are invited to participate by selecting a gift tag from the Gifts Tree, purchasing the requested item, and returning the unwrapped gift to the church for distribution. The Gifts Tree ministry provides a meaningful opportunity for parishioners of all ages to share the blessings they have received and experience the joy of giving. It is a beautiful expression of Christ's call to care for one another and a cherished tradition within our parish. The Holy Spirit Gifts Tree takes place annually during October and November , with gift collection and distribution completed in time for Christmas. • Music Ministry | Holy Spirit Catholic Church

< Back Music Ministry Lead the assembly in sacred music that deepens worship and lifts hearts to God. Is the Lord calling you to use your musical gifts in service of the Church? Do you want to learn more about sacred music and its role in the liturgy? We invite you to prayerfully consider joining the Music Ministry at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Music is not simply an addition to the Mass—it is a form of prayer that lifts our hearts to God and helps lead the entire assembly into deeper worship. Whether you are an experienced musician or simply someone with a willing heart, there is a place for you in this ministry. No prior experience is required—only a desire to serve God through music. Parish Choir Our Parish Choir is composed of adults who are called to serve the Church through sacred music. Members share a love for singing and a desire to enhance the beauty of the liturgy through prayerful and reverent song. The choir rehearses weekly on Wednesday evenings from 6:00–7:00 PM in the church and serves throughout the year from September through the Solemnity of Corpus Christi in June. The choir leads music at weekend Masses and major liturgical celebrations, helping to support and elevate the prayer of the entire assembly. Cantors Cantors are skilled vocal leaders who help guide the congregation in sung prayer and proclaim the psalms and other solo parts of the Mass. This ministry requires confidence, preparation, and a heart for leading others in worship. Cantors must be at least 15 years old and are asked to complete an audition with the music director prior to serving. Through their leadership, cantors help foster full, active, and conscious participation in the liturgy. Instrumentalists Instrumentalists who are proficient in their craft are invited to share their talents in service of the Church. Musicians may be scheduled for Sunday Masses, solemnities, and special parish celebrations throughout the year. Through their gifts, instrumentalists help enrich the prayer of the Church and support the sung liturgy in a meaningful and prayerful way. • Adoration | Holy Spirit Catholic Church

Eucharistic Adoration "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing." (John 15:5) WHAT IS ADORATION? A Time to Be Still Eucharistic Adoration is simply time spent in the presence of Jesus — present to us Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the Blessed Sacrament. In our busy world, it can be rare to simply stop, be quiet, and allow ourselves to be loved. Adoration is that opportunity. There is no agenda, no performance — only presence. You sit before the Lord as you are, and He meets you there. Catholics believe that Jesus is truly and fully present in the Eucharist — the same Jesus who healed the sick, embraced the outcast, and rose from the dead. Adoration is a time to encounter that same Jesus, in silence and love. "It is well to keep close to the source of grace... The Eucharist is the secret of my day. It gives strength and meaning to all my other activities." — Pope St. John Paul II ADORATION SCHEDULE Thursdays 7:30–8:30am (Church) 7–8pm (Chapel) First Friday (Church) 9–10am First Weekend (Chapel) 8pm Friday–5:00pm Saturday LOCATION Holy Spirit Catholic Church 3871 Betsy Kerrison Pkwy Johns Island, SC 29455 QUESTIONS? SIGN UP GETTING STARTED Practical Tips for Adoration If you have never been to Adoration before, here is what to expect and how to make the most of your time: Come as you are. There is no special preparation required. Simply enter, genuflect before the Blessed Sacrament, and take a seat. Bring what you need. A Bible, a rosary, a journal, or simply your quiet presence — all are welcome. You might also pray the Liturgy of the Hours or use a prayer guide. Be patient with silence. If your mind wanders, gently return your attention to the Lord. Distraction is not failure — it is part of the practice of prayer. Stay as long as you are able. Even fifteen minutes before the Lord can be transformative. There is no required minimum. Maintain quiet reverence. The church is shared with others in prayer. Please silence your phone and keep your voice low when entering and leaving.

  • Arimatheans and Gardening | Holy Spirit Catholic Church

< Back Arimatheans and Gardening Serve through hands-on care of cemetery grounds, gardens, and outdoor devotional spaces. The Arimathean Ministry began in 2020 and is named in memory of Joseph of Arimathea, who lovingly offered his gardens for the body of the crucified Christ. It is a hands-on group of men and women who take care of horticulture, statuary and associated structures in the Holy Spirit Cemetery, Columbarium, Chapel Walk, Stations of the Cross, Garden of the Unborn, Parish Life Center, Founders Place and Main Church gardens and plaza. In this work, we witness to our Catholic faith's commitment to life from birth to natural death and create beautiful, prayerful space that honors our departed parishioners and also welcomes those who seek quiet, meditative areas for personal or group prayer and reflection. Holy Spirit is one of only a few Catholic Churches in the diocese that have burial space adjacent to the church and we are blessed to have acres of maritime forest which we can protect and enhance for the glory of God! We are a motley crew of experienced and inexperienced gardeners, hedge-pruners, tree-trimmers, statue-washers, moss-pullers, grass-growers, fountain-restorers, landscape planners, carpenters, painters, mulch-spreaders, trouble-shooters, problem-fixers, shed-builders and cleaner-uppers. We have a good time working together from 9-11 am on Monday mornings from March 1 to mid-December, and when we decorate the church grounds for Christmas. We welcome new members at any point during the calendar year.
