Ministries "As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace." ( 1 Peter 4:10) DELIVER MORE There is Always More Service is central to who we are. As a Spirit-filled people, we are sent out from worship to “deliver more” of God’s love into the world—bringing Christ’s presence into our homes, neighborhoods, and everyday encounters. At Holy Spirit Catholic Church, service flows from the Eucharist and leads us back into the world with purpose and joy. In serving others, we are not simply meeting needs or fulfilling an obligation; we are participating in the mission of Christ and His Church and extending the love we have received in Christ. MINISTRIES Find a Place to Serve "Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of working, but it is the same God who inspires them all in every one. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good." - 1 Cor. 12:4-7 All Ministries VIEW MINISTRIES Outreach VIEW MINISTRIES Fellowship & Hospitality VIEW MINISTRIES Liturgical VIEW MINISTRIES

- Confirmation | Holy Spirit Catholic Church
Confirmation "Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit." (Acts 8:17) WHAT IS CONFIRMATION? Sealed with the Holy Spirit Confirmation is the sacrament in which a baptized Christian is sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit and strengthened to live as a full and active member of the Body of Christ. In Confirmation, the gifts given at Baptism are deepened and strengthened. The seven gifts of the Holy Spirit — wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord — are poured out anew, equipping the confirmed person to live their faith with courage and joy in the world. Confirmation is not a graduation from faith — it is a commissioning into it. Those who receive Confirmation are called to be witnesses of Christ in their families, workplaces, and communities. Confirmation for Teens Holy Spirit prepares teenagers for the Sacrament of Confirmation through our Children's Faith Formation program. Preparation typically spans two school years, beginning in seventh grade, with most students receiving the sacrament in the spring of their eighth-grade year. The 18-month journey is divided into four simple phases: an initial six months focused on personal growth and the story of salvation, followed by twelve months of direct preparation for the sacrament. Along the way, students will attend two mandatory retreats—one at the start of the program and one at the end. Because faith is built on community, candidates and their parents must be registered members of the parish, attend weekly Mass, and be involved in parish activities. Contact our Faith Formation team to learn about the current program schedule and requirements for teen Confirmation candidates. CHILDREN'S FAITH FORMATION Confirmation for Adults Adults who were baptized Catholic but never received Confirmation are warmly encouraged to complete their initiation. In many cases, adults can be confirmed through our OCIA process. Children's Faith Formation Jesus called them to him, saying, "Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God." (Luke 18:16) FAITH FORMATION (PSR) Sharing Jesus with our Children Children's faith formation (PSR) in the Catholic Church is the lifelong educational and spiritual process of teaching children the Gospel message, doctrine, and traditions. Its primary goal is to help youth develop an active, personal relationship with Jesus Christ and the Church. The Church recognizes parents as the primary educators and spiritual role models for their children. Holy Spirit Catholic Church partners with families by offering tools, coaching, and community support. Children attend weekly classes at the parish, taught by volunteer catechists. Classes are held on Wednesday evenings September to May from 6-7 pm , with a light snack available at 5:45. Families are highly encouraged to attend classes each year beginning in first grade and culminating with the Sacrament of Confirmation. These classes provide the required instruction for children to receive the sacraments, specifically First Reconciliation (Confession), First Eucharist (Holy Communion), and Confirmation. Register for Classes At this time registration is not offered online. Complete the registration form and return it to the parish office. Forms are available in the office. - Anointing of the Sick | Holy Spirit Catholic Church
Anointing of the Sick "Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the Church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord;" (James 5:14) A SACRAMENT OF HEALING What Is the Anointing of the Sick? The Anointing of the Sick is a sacrament of healing, comfort, and strength — given by Christ to those who are seriously ill, facing surgery, in advanced age, or approaching death. During the Anointing, a priest anoints the sick person's forehead and hands with holy oil, praying for healing and peace. The effects of this sacrament are real and powerful: it unites the suffering person with Christ in His own suffering, strengthens them against anxiety and discouragement, may restore physical health if that is God's will, and prepares the soul for the journey ahead. When to Request Anointing Before any significant surgery Upon a serious or life-threatening diagnosis During chronic illness, especially when your condition worsens When significantly weakened by advanced age When approaching death — together with Viaticum (final Communion) Please do not wait until a crisis to ask for it. ANOINTING AT MASS We offer the Anointing of the Sick at the 8:30am daily Mass on the first Friday of each month. REQUEST FOR ANOINTING Please contact the parish office to request Anointing of the Sick if you are in need. URGENT SITUATIONS If you or a loved one needs a priest urgently — including after hours — please call the parish office and follow the prompts for an emergency. - Reconciliation | Holy Spirit Catholic Church
Reconciliation "There will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance." (Luke 15:7) AN ENCOUNTER WITH MERCY What Is Confession? The Sacrament of Reconciliation — also called Confession or Penance — is one of the most beautiful gifts of the Catholic faith. It is not about shame or punishment. It is about freedom. In Confession, you speak your sins to a priest in confidence, and through him, you hear Christ's own words of forgiveness. The priest acts in persona Christi — in the person of Christ — and the absolution he pronounces is the absolution of God Himself. Many people describe leaving Confession feeling lighter, freer, and more at peace than they have in years. If it has been a long time since your last Confession — whether months, years, or decades — you are still welcome. The priest will guide you gently through the process. There is nothing to fear and everything to gain. How to Make a Good Confession Examine Your Conscience Before going to Confession, take some time to reflect prayerfully on your thoughts, words, and actions since your last Confession. Use an examination of conscience as a guide. Enter the Confessional Our confessionals are located at the back of the main church — on the left and right. You may confess face-to-face or behind a screen — the choice is yours. Begin with a Simple Greeting Begin by saying, "Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. It has been [length of time] since my last Confession." Then tell the priest your sins simply and honestly. Receive Absolution The priest will offer brief counsel, assign a penance, and then pronounce the words of absolution. Listen for those words — they are among the most powerful in the world. Complete Your Penance After leaving the confessional, complete the penance the priest assigned — usually a short prayer. Then take a moment to give thanks to God for His mercy. EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE (USCCB) CONFESSION SCHEDULE Monday–Friday 8:15am–8:30am Saturday 3:30–5pm By Appointment Contact the Parish Office to Schedule CONFESSIONAL LOCATION Confessionals are in the main church, at the back — on the left and the right. You may go face-to-face or behind the screen. QUESTIONS? (843) 768-0357 office@holyspiritsc.org A SIMPLE GUIDE If You Have Not Been in a While If it has been many years since your last Confession, please do not let that stop you. The priest will help you through it — gently and without judgment. Simply walk in, tell the priest it has been a long time, and he will guide you step by step. There is no wrong way to begin, and there is nothing you could say that would shock or scandalize a priest who has heard it all. God's mercy truly has no bottom. If you are a returning Catholic or have been away from the Church, we encourage you to call the parish office at (843) 768-0357 to speak with Fr. Stephen before your first Confession back. He would be honored to welcome you personally.

Matrimony “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” (Gen. 2:18) MARRIAGE IN THE CHURCH The Sacrament of Matrimony When you as a Catholic couple exchange vows in the Church, you promise your love to one another before God, family and friends. You become a living sign of Christ's love for His Church — a love that holds nothing back, endures all things, and is open to new life. Your Catholic marriage will be a breathtakingly beautiful calling. Marriage is a covenant modeled on the very love that exists within the Trinity: complete, faithful, fruitful, and life giving The preparation process for Catholic marriage is a wonderful journey and is a gift from our Lord. This preparation is an opportunity to go deeper with your partner, to explore the foundations of a lifelong commitment, and to invite God into the center of your marriage from the very beginning. - Mission Development | Holy Spirit Catholic Church
Mission Development Discerning where God is leading Holy Spirit Catholic Church. FOLLOWING THE HOLY SPIRIT Where is God Leading Us? Over the past year, we have been asking an important question together: Where is God leading Holy Spirit Parish next? Our Mission Development Path is a process of prayer, listening, discernment, and planning as we seek to understand the mission God has for our parish and how we can respond. Our parish vision is: One community of disciples, filled, led, and empowered by the Holy Spirit to be loved, transformed, and sent. Listening, Discerning, and Moving Forward Earlier this year, we invited the parish to share hopes, ideas, and feedback about the future of Holy Spirit. That conversation became the starting point for the next stage of our work. Since then, parishioners and ministry leaders have been working through that feedback in four Strategic Growth Areas: Sacred Worship Discipleship Formation Mission Stewardship Finance & Organization The working groups have spent the past several months considering the feedback we received and discerning practical ways we can begin moving forward. At our second Town Hall, each group shared the current initiatives they are proposing for this first year. These initiatives are not a finished plan or something set in stone. They are a starting point—our best sense right now of where we can focus our time and energy as we continue to grow and discern God's direction for our parish. What Are We Working Toward? Ultimately, this process is about much more than programs, buildings, or parish organization. We want to become a community where people encounter Jesus Christ, grow as His disciples, and are equipped to live and share their faith. We want to be a parish that is loved, transformed, and sent—and that lives those words not just as a vision statement, but in the everyday life of our parish. See the Current Initiatives We've created a handout that provides more detail about the four Strategic Growth Areas and the initiatives currently being considered for the year ahead. Discernment LOOKING AHEAD TOGETHER We Are Discerning Our Parish Future Together The Mission Development Path is an ongoing process, and we want to continue hearing from you. Where do you see God working at Holy Spirit? What should we be considering as we move forward? Leave any feedback below! First Name* Last Name* Email* Phone* Share your thoughts: Submit WHAT IS ADORATION? A Time to Be Still Eucharistic Adoration is simply time spent in the presence of Jesus — present to us Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the Blessed Sacrament. In our busy world, it can be rare to simply stop, be quiet, and allow ourselves to be loved. Adoration is that opportunity. There is no agenda, no performance — only presence. You sit before the Lord as you are, and He meets you there. Catholics believe that Jesus is truly and fully present in the Eucharist — the same Jesus who healed the sick, embraced the outcast, and rose from the dead. Adoration is a time to encounter that same Jesus, in silence and love. "It is well to keep close to the source of grace... The Eucharist is the secret of my day. It gives strength and meaning to all my other activities." — Pope St. John Paul II ADORATION SCHEDULE Thursdays 7:30–8:30am (Church) 7–8pm (Chapel) First Friday (Church) 9–10am First Weekend (Chapel) 8pm Friday–5:00pm Saturday LOCATION Holy Spirit Catholic Church 3871 Betsy Kerrison Pkwy Johns Island, SC 29455 QUESTIONS? - Eucharist | Holy Spirit Catholic Church
The Eucharist "I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever..." (John 6:51) THE GREATEST GIFT What Is the Eucharist? The Mass is the greatest thing in the world because at every Mass, bread and wine are transformed into the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ. More than a symbol or a memorial — Catholics believe it is the real, true, and substantial presence of Christ Himself. The Eucharist is the heart of Catholic life. Every other sacrament, every prayer, every act of service flows from and leads back to this encounter at the altar. When we receive Holy Communion, we are not simply remembering Jesus — we are receiving Him. This mystery — called the Real Presence — is at the center of why Catholics come to Mass every Sunday. We come hungry and we are fed. We come burdened and we are strengthened. We come broken and we are made whole — not by our own effort, but by the One who gives Himself to us completely. FOR CHILDREN First Communion First Communion refers preparation for and reception of the Body and Blood of Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time. At Holy Spirit, baptized children typically prepare for First Communion at 7 or 8 years old (usually in 2nd grade), following completion of their first Reconciliation. Preparation takes place through our Children's Faith Formation program, which forms children in the faith, in Scripture, and in the sacramental life of the Church. First Communion is a joyful family celebration — a moment of grace that children and parents will treasure for a lifetime. We work to make the preparation meaningful and the celebration beautiful. Preparation Requirements Baptized Catholic Registered Parishioner. Register here. Enrolled in our Children's Faith Formation program (or equivalent Catholic school religious education) Typically in second grade or older Have received First Reconciliation (as part of Faith Formation) CHILDREN'S FAITH FORMATION Adults Are you a baptized adult who has not yet made their First Communion? We would love to walk with you on this journey. Please connect with our OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults) coordinator to begin your preparation. WHO CAN RECEIVE COMMUNION At a Catholic Mass, Holy Communion is offered to Catholics who have received their First Communion and are in a state of grace. Non-Catholics and Catholics who are not in a state of grace are warmly invited to come forward to the priest or deacon with arms crossed to receive a blessing instead. CURIOUS ABOUT BECOMING CATHOLIC? If you are not Catholic and find yourself drawn to receive Communion, we invite you to explore our OCIA process. LEARN ABOUT OCIA CLASS OF 2026 First Communion
