Feeding of the Multitude

Provides Thanksgiving groceries, prepared meals, and physical/spiritual support to Sea Island families.

Holy Spirit Catholic Church is proud to join over two dozen partner churches across Johns and Wadmalaw Islands for the annual Feeding of the Multitude, held at Haut Gap Middle School on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

This annual ecumenical tradition brings our local Christian community together to serve our neighbors in need on the Sea Islands, providing both spiritual and physical nourishment in the spirit of Christ’s love.

How We Serve Our Neighbors

In recent years, the Feeding of the Multitude has adapted to meet the changing needs of our community by providing:

  • Drive-Through Grocery Pick-Up: Distributing more than 1,400 bags of groceries tailored for families and 1,000 $20 Food Lion gift certificates to help families prepare their own Thanksgiving feast.

  • Homebound Meal Delivery: Cooking and delivering hundreds of hot, fresh Thanksgiving meals directly to homebound residents.

  • Community Support & Care: Partnering with local organizations like Pet Helpers and the Charleston Animal Society to supply pet food and animal wellness resources.

In total, this event reaches over 5,700 Sea Island residents each year—a true testament to what we can accomplish when the local Church body unites centered around Jesus Christ.

How You Can Get Involved

We invite parishioners of Holy Spirit Catholic Church to answer the call to serve as instruments of the Holy Spirit:

  1. Volunteer: Assist with pre-event prep, grocery packing, drive-through distribution, or homebound meal delivery.

  2. Donate Groceries or Funds: Provide non-perishable grocery items or make a financial contribution to support food purchases.

  3. Join the Prayer Team: Pray for the organizers, volunteers, and the families receiving meals, that this event may continue to grow the Kingdom and build strong, loving bonds across our diverse community.
